AoT C’ville #20 – at Three Notch’d Brewing: Mon, Nov 7

Join us Nov 7 from 7-9pm EDT at Three Notch’d Craft Kitchen & Brewery for fun astronomy talks and trivia (and of course great food and beer) organized by members of the University of Virginia Astronomy Department.

We will have talks by Astronomy graduate student Bri Mills, UVA Professor Ed Murphy, and Ezequiel Treister (Associate Professor, Institute of Astrophysics, Catholic University in Chile) who is visiting NRAO this semester. Check out the talk title/topics in the images below.

Following the event we will be observing through telescopes outside Three Notch’d run by the Charlottesville Astronomical Society. Saturn and Jupiter should be visible.

Join us Sep 12 from 7-9pm EDT at Three Notch’d Craft Kitchen & Brewery for fun astronomy talks and trivia (and of course great food and beer) organized by members of the University of Virginia Astronomy Department. We’ll have talks on the James Webb Space Telescope, searching for important elements in space, and the intersection between astronomy and climate change (See posters below).

Following the event, we’ll also be telescope observing with the Charlottesville Astronomical Society (weather permitting)!

AoT C’ville #16 – via Zoom: Monday, Dec 13th

AoT C’ville #15 @ Champion Grill – Tuesday, Oct 26th

AoT C’ville is returning to in person events! Our next event will take place on Tuesday, October 26th (postponed from previous Oct 25th due to weather) at Champion Grill – Stonefield from 7-9pm EDT. We’ll be set up outside and have our usual set of astronomy themed talks and trivia.

To take advantage of the amazing outdoor space at Champion’s Stonefield location, we’ll also have telescopes set up by members of the Charlottesville Astronomical Society for night sky viewing. Come join us for what’s sure to be a fun night in our return to in person events. Since this event is so close to Halloween, costumes are also highly encouraged!!! Note that this location is different than previous Champion events as we will be hosting this at their Stonefield location! Make sure to attend the correct venue.

As usual, we’ll have Astronomy themed talks, trivia, and prizes targeted at all ages and experience levels. Preceding our main event will be a live streamed cider tasting from the folks at Albermarle Ciderworks (7:00-7:30pm EDT). Stay tuned to this event page for information regarding deals and pick up orders from Ciderworks for the event.

Taking advantage of the live stream aspect, we’ll have talks from Charlottesville astronomy’s past and present.

  • Ed Murphy (current UVA professor): on the upcoming Perseid meteor shower and the night sky
  • Al Wooten (NRAO scientist): on ALMA
  • Nicole Gugliucci (past UVA graduate student; currently an Assistant Professor at Saint Anselm College): on radio astronomy and citizen science
